- Nazrul Manch: Kindling interest in the National Poet
Nazrul Mancha organised a painting competition for students at the auditorium of Progressive Model School here on August 1. The competition, titled “The Portrait of Poet Nazrul,” coincided with the celebration of Nazrul Utsab. The function was held by Nazrul Mancha at the local Shilpakala Academy auditorium at the end of last month.

- Rabindra-Nazrul Jayanti celebrations in Pabna
Annada Gobinda Public Library, Pabna organised a discussion and cultural function recently at the library auditorium marking birth anniversaries of Rabindranath and Nazrul. Speakers at the programme expressed the view that Nobel laureate poet Rabindranath Tagore and our National Poet Kazi Nazrul Islam are integral parts of Bengali culture and literature.

- Shamsul Huda: A music collector and artiste
Shamsul Huda is a dedicated singer, music director, actor and music collector. Huda did his Masters in Classical Music from Lucknow, India. He returned to Bangladesh in 1988 and his passion for music took him to the remote corners of the greater Mymensingh region in search of folk songs. There he collected the lyrics and recorded the songs performed by the local folk artistes.

- Highlighting Bangla music trends of 19th and 20th centuries
Department of Production of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy organised a research-oriented programme titled "Bangla music trends during 19th and 20th century" at the Music and Dance Centre on May 25.
Besides renowned singers such as Khairul Anam Shakil and researcher Professor Mridul Kanti Chakroborty, promising singers of Department of Theatre and Music, University of Dhaka presented songs written and composed by the major representatives of the two centuries.

- “Nazrul Mela” to be aired live on Channel-i
Channel-i is organising a "Nazrul Mela" for the second time on the occasion of the 109th birth anniversary of the National Poet. A press conference to discuss the plan was held on May 20. Eminent Nazrul singer Sohrab Hossain, poet Asad Chowdhury, Faridur Reza Sagar and Shykh Seraj were present at the meeting. At the conference Sohrab Hossain reminisced memorable incidents of his life and his interaction with the legendary poet.
