Shelu Barua’s new album launched
“Kachhe Thako, Chhuey Thako,” an album of ‘adhunik’ songs by artiste Shelu Barua was launched on November 1, at the conference lounge of the National Press Club. Veteran music composer Robin Ghosh formally launched the album while Abdur Rahman Sarker, managing director of National Bank Limited presided over the event.
Renowned lyricist of the ’60s, K.G. Mustafa (who has written the songs featured in the album); artiste Hasina Momataz; music composer Safat Khaiyam among others were present at the programme.
Shelu Barua, who has also composed the songs in the album, said, “Throughout my singing career, I haven’t been fully satisfied. When I approached K.G. Mustafa to write the lyrics for my album, he asked me who the composer is. I showed my interest and after hearing the tunes he approved. It has been an interesting creative experience for me.”
“I don’t have the urge to write songs anymore, since music has become more of something to watch rather than to listen. Shelu Barua’s earnest request and devotion to music made me write again. The melodious compositions and unpretentious lyrics complement Borua’s vocals. It is up to the audience to judge whether the songs will appeal to them or not,” said, Mustafa, whose songs “Tomarey legechhey ato je bhalo,” “Aainatey Oi mukh dekhbe jakhon,” “Tara bhora ratey” and many more became huge hits in the ’60s.
Puja Barua, daughter of Shelu Barua, made her debut with a song titled “Du chokhey aaj joto swopon” in the album.
