Nazrul birth anniversary celebration at Public Library
On the second day (May 20) of National Nazrul Sangeet Convention organised by Nazrul Sangeet Shilpi Parishad (NSSP), several renowned and upcoming artistes performed at the Shawkat Osman Auditorium, Central Public Library.
Like the previous day, the second day’s programme started with the choral rendition of Nobin aasha jaglo jey rey aaj, which is also the theme of this year’s convention. This was followed by a choral rendition of Nahi bhoy nahi bhoy.
The first solo performance was Tepantorer mathey bondhu hey rendered by Shahin Mosharraf. To the dismay of the audience, the artiste seemed out of tune at times; the sound arrangement did not seem to cooperate her either. Nasima Akhter’s rendition of Pardeshi megh jao rey phirey sounded worse. It sounded like the artiste had a bad case of cold and was desperately trying to squeeze out the words by shrieking.
Fortunately most of the performances by young artistes were laudable. Tamanna Khanum, Pujon Kumar Das and Rawshan Ara Islam presented skilled renditions of Nazrul’s ghazals — Bakul chanpar boney, Gulbagichar bulbuli ami and Oi ghar bhulano shurey respectively.
Noted danseuse Tamanna Rahman along with her troupe performed a Manipuri dance with the song Gother rakhal boley dey re.
Antara Biswas’ (from Sylhet) rendition of Nadir naam shoi anjana generated a round of applause. Lokman Chowdhury (from Chittagong), Shaila Sharmin Benu (from Rangpur) and Fauzia Nahid (from Rajshahi) rendered Eto jol o kajol chokhey, Phiriya jodi shey ashey and Piya gechhey kobey pardesh respectively.
Shama Ahmed, Suraiya Alam, Fatema Amin and Chhanda Chakrabarty sang Jani jani priyo, Aankhi ghum ghum, Mor prothom prem-er mukul and Bholo priyo bholo.
Noted artistes Dr Nashid Kamal, Kalpana Anam and Bulbul Mahalanbish also performed at the programme
The soiree wrapped up with a rendition of Poran priyo keno eley obelay by Sanjay Kabiraj.
