Dhaka Music Conservatory in full gear
Dhaka Music Conservatory, the music institution of Centre for Asian Arts and Cultures (CAAC), was founded in 2001. Initially the institution offered piano, violin and cello lessons. To run a conservatory properly, teachers with required academic background with a focus in their respective areas are needed. The institution now has all of the teachers to meet these requirements, organisers said at a press conference on May 5.
Primarily the conservatory will have eleven faculty members, of whom five will teach western classical music, five will teach Indian classical music and one faculty member will teach traditional Bangladeshi folk music.
The conservatory hopes to arrange monthly concerts. Lecture demonstrations will follow. Furthermore, it plans to present similar concerts at the elementary schools of Bangladesh throughout the year to connect the children with music of our country and overseas.
The institution will follow the syllabus of Associated Board of Royal Schools of Music, London for its western disciplines. For Indian classical music and other courses, the institution will provide its own syllabus. The conservatory offers a two-year diploma, with eight semesters; each semester is four months long. Students registering for ABRSM examinations will be able to finish the minimum grade 2 during these two years.
The courses include Hindustani Classical Vocal; Tabla and Pakhawj; Violin and Cello; Western Classical Composition, Theory and Modern Song; Comparative Study in Music, Theory, Music History; Software Music and Classical Guitar.
