Bauls honoured in Sylhet
At their second anniversary celebration, Baul Kalyan Samity, Sylhet honoured four renowned bauls of Sylhet. artistes are, Kafil Uddin Sarker, Sabul Miah, Waris Ali and Ataur Rahman.
The Deputy Commissioner of Sylhet, Harun-Ur-Rashid Khan was the chief guest at the programme. He said, “The greater Sylhet region has a heritage of mysticism, enriched by contributions of creative geniuses like Hason Raja, Arkum Shah, Radharomon Dutta, Sitalong Shah, Durbin Shah, Ruhi Thakur and “Baul Samrat” Shah Abdul Karim. Messages of love, humanism and the inseparable bond with the creator are the essence of their songs.”
“We should properly evaluate their contributions to the society,” he added.
Coordinator of the Samity, Kamal Uddin Russell chaired the programme. Among others, Regional Director of Bangladesh Betar, Sylhet, Mir Shah Alam; Managing Director of Eshita Telemedia, Nokul Das and Chairman of Baul Bandhu, UK, Ekhlas Miah attended the event as special guests. The chief guest announced a donation of Taka 10,000 for the ailing and elderly baul Sabul Miah. Several others also made donations for him.
A one-minute-silence was observed to pay homage to the late baul Ruhi Thakur and the founder president of the Samity, Mostafa Kamal.
