
Khan Ataur Rahman was a multi-faceted talent and was a pioneering actor, singer, musician, lyricist, organiser and producer. On his 80th birth anniversary (November 17), Rumana Islam, daughter of Khan Ataur Rahman, launched a solo album titled “Astitwo” at Bangladesh China Friendship Conference Centre.
Eminent actor Kobori Sarwar unveiled the album while renowned film personalities Chashi Nazrul Islam, Alauddin Ali, Ahmed Imtiaz Bulbul, Ali Hossain and Sheikh Sadi Khan attended the event as discussants. Rumana Islam said, “Songs of my father attained immense popularity. His lyrics are remarkable. My attachment to his music grew gradually. This is what inspired me to record his memorable songs.”
The songs included in the album were popularised by noted playback singers Mahbuba Rahman, Sabina Yasmin, Shahanaz Rahmatullah, Bashir Ahmed, Subir Nandi and Abida Sultana. Songs featured in the album are “Tumi cheyechhiley ogo jantey,” “Tomar aguney porano duti chokh-e,” “E ki shonar aloy jibon boriye diley,” “Amakey poratey jodi eto lagey bhalo” and several other mega-popular oldies.
