A laudable move to promote traditional Bangla songs
Radio Foorti to air songs recorded by Bengal Foundation
Bengal Foundation and Radio Foorti have reached an agreement. From now on, Radio Foorti will regularly broadcast songs from albums released by Bengal Foundation. On the occasion, Bengal Foundation arranged a musical soiree titled Ganer Bhetor Diye at the Bengal Shilpalaya on November 24.
Prior to the programme, a press conference was held where Luva Nahid Chowdhury, director general of Bengal Foundation and Rafiqul Haque, managing director of Radio Foorti, signed the agreement on behalf of the respective organisations. Eminent artistes Subir Nandi, Mita Haque, Fahmida Nabi and Laisa Ahmed Lisa along with Shakil Manjur, CEO of Radio Foorti and Khalid Hasan, senior assistant director of Bengal Foundation were present at the programme.
Over the last two decades, Bengal Foundation has been working to promote the traditional Bangla music, reflecting the motto — “Bajuk Praney Bangla Gaan”. But reaching the masses, in particular the young generation, has been a challenging affair.
“We were looking for a platform from where our songs can reach the young music lovers. We are delighted that Radio Foorti has come forward to materialise our dream,” said Luva Nahid Chowdhury.
Rafiqul Haque said, “Media can shape the taste of the people, both in positive and negative ways. We believe in positive things. Radio Foorti wants to be the medium to promote the rich and pure Bangla music. This idea is reflected in our motto — ‘Ki Jadu Bangla Gaaney’. We are proud to be associated with Bengal Foundation.”
Artistes present at the programme appreciated this move by Bengal Foundation and Radio Foorti, and wished their success. “A new horizon of possibility, a golden opportunity is created through this,” said Subir Nandi.
Nasima Shahin opened the musical soiree with Nazrul Sangeet, first one being Eki surey tumi gaan shonaley. Bulbul Islam, Sharmin Shathi Islum, Jhuma Khandaker and Chandana Majumdar performed Rabindra Sangeet, songs of three poets (Atul Prasad, DL Roy and Rajnikant), adhunik and folk songs respectively.
